In the Classroom

Now that we are in the classroom how can we maximize our effectiveness? Below is a list of tips that will help you discover how to do so.

1. At the beginning of the semester. Pick a seat that is closest to the front. It will ensure that the teacher knows who you are and is more likely to involve you in the lecture.

2. Dress nice. As simple as it sounds it really makes a difference

   - If you go to class in your pajamas you aren't respecting your education

   - You are more likely to fall asleep in class.

   - Dressing nice will not only make you feel better about yourself, but you will also take yourself more seriously.

(Note: this may not be applicable to all types of classes. Some may require you to wear appropriate clothing to fit the class type)

3.  Ask questions. Building that relationship with your professor is crucial to your success. It lets them know that you are paying attention and care about the subject material.

4. Discover your note taking style. Some prefer to take notes on a laptop, while some prefer hand written notes. Either way, note taking is a must!

5. Record your lecture if your professor allows it! I know that re listening to a lecture in class is the last thing you want to do, but you will not take everything in the first time.

6. Find the people in your classroom that are doing well in the class. Find out what helps them do so well in a particular course. You learn better by bouncing ideas off of other people.
